Working Group Updates
October 31, 2005

Placing Implementation Guide
Chair: Igor Best-Devereux, eReinsure
Facilitators: Marc Codispoti, ACORD & Drew Bolton, ACORD

The aim of this group is to develop a Placing Implementation Guide for the ACORD RLC Placing and Core Submissions message standards (compatible with the existing implementation guide already created for ACORD RLC accounting and claims message standards). The aim of this will be to ensure that all implementation and integration initiatives using ACORD standard transactions are applied consistently, following consistent recommended flows/processes for interchange of messages between business partners.

Good progress has been made on this project. A continuation to the end of the year has been requested in order to complete all outstanding tasks on the guide, but the documentation is very close to being ready for wider circulation for feedback. There has been an interesting dynamic in this group with a mix of traditional practitioners and web-based service providers bringing their experience and expertise to the group.

The documentation focuses on the placement process; commonalities have been identified within related processes, such as endorsements and cancellations and replacements, which will be incorporated in later Guides.

Numerous different styles of State and Process representation have been tried. The documentation represents States and dataflow in a simple, quasi-technical representation which we believe is simple to follow. Feedback will assist to further refine these representations and the guide itself in the final two months of the year.

Global Placing Document
Chair: N/A
Facilitator: Puneet Bharal, ACORD

The Global Placing Guide explains how to create a Global Placing Document (paper form), and populate information within it. The document is somewhat based on the "Panel 1" and is intended to ultimately replace that London-specific document with a globally accepted alternative that is consistent and a solid basis of captured data and is transferable to electronic systems when companies are ready to move from paper.

  • This working group has been working on the following areas of work:
  • Agreed information content and format
  • Agreed definitions of individual items
  • Common document layout that can be used by anyone
  • Maps to existing ACORD Standards created for sharing of electronic information between business partners

Work has progressed well to date. A new draft on the LMP slip is expected in the short term, having been held up slightly due to heavy workloads on the part on the membership in charge of this area.

MR Review Standing Working Group
Facilitators: Serge Cayron, ACORD & Puneet Bharal, ACORD

This on-going working group is currently reviewing MRs submitted for the RLC 2005-2 release. The MR process now incorporates the recommended improvements as agreed by the membership. These improvements include more regular meetings and reviews. We have also noticed a better quality of output with greater involvement from business practitioners, and look to encourage more of this type of involvement going forwards.

A new sub-group has been set up for document types structures and codes.
